Volunteering in Bitti Tree Reforestation

starts from $1280 a month and monthly fee decreases with longer stay

Description

Bitti tree is an endangered plant species indigenous to South Sulawesi, Indonesia, and a material for the traditional wooden boat Phinisi. LPTM in cooperation with Rotary Club Makassar is initiating reforestation of the Bitti tree by introducing Tree Farming and Agroforestry to local people in the Regency of Takalar. Preserving the wood will preserve the income sources of local people and preserve their cultural heritage. As a part of reforestation program your tasks would be cleaning bushes, maintaining fences, measure and record the growth of trees, planting new seedlings or replace the broken ones. Since communication with local people will make your stay more comfortable, you will be provided with Indonesia language training one month before staying at the reforestation location.

Volunteers are given free Ecotours to either white sand beach, tropical rain forest, excursion island, waterfall and butterfly habitat, or village with catacombs and cultural festival. If applicable, volunteers can attend wedding functions and family or neighborhood gathering.

The price will cover picking up at the airport, room/accommodation, meals twice a day at home if accommodated by host family (volunteers have to spend about USD 4 a day for meals if accommodated in a guest house), maximum three days city orientation, and consultation whenever necessary during the whole stay.
